Outreach Activities
Mar 2025: Our group members, Mehrdad and Haixin, participated in organizing and hosting the annual "Physics Fun" event, the largest Physics outreach activity in the Great Miami metro area, at UM's Coral Gables campus. More than 300 people attended the event and enjoyed learning some cool physics through hands-on demonstrations. Congrats to the Wang group for another fantastic outreach activity!

Dec 2023: Through the Scientist in Every Florida School Program, our group virtually visited Del Prado Elementary School (Boca Raton, FL) on Dec 12, 2023. We delivered presentations on the fun Physics of Matter and how their electronic properties relate to modern electronic devices used in our daily lives. More than 80 5th-grade students attended the presentations. We had so much fun interacting with the talented next generation and disseminating the beauty of Physics to them!
The recorded video of the lecture can be found here.

Oct 2023: Our group members participated in hosting the Physics Fun and International Observe the Moon Night hosted in UM Physics Building. More than 200 people (>50% are children) from the general public attended the event. We had so much fun and enjoyed disseminating the beauty of Physics to the general public!

Mar 2023: Our group hosted the visit of 35 students (>50% are female students, >8 are African American students) from Smithville Middle School, Smithville, MS. We demonstrated how scanning probe microscopes could allow us to visualize the Nano World. It's always so much fun disseminating science to the next generation, especially the underrepresented groups.

Feb 2023: We take part in the Science Night at the Museum 2023 at MSU. It's always so much fun disseminating science to the public, especially our bright next generation.

Oct 2021: We welcome talented high school students from Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science to visit our lab and learn something fun about Nanoscience and Scanning Tunneling Microscope.

Jun 2021: Members of the Wang Group visited the Needmore Community Center in Starkville, Mississippi. We introduced interesting phenomena about light and color and showed some fun experiments to more than 50 kids there.

May 2021:
COVID-19 pandemic can not stop us from desseminating science to our talented next generation. With Dr. Colleen Scott, Dr. Mahesh Gangishetty, members of Wang Group have recorded experimental demos in the lab and developed a scientific video introducing interesting phenomena about light to K-12 school students.
This video has been sent to local middle schools at Starkville, Mississippi. Kudos to Ian, Katlyn and Rajesh !
